Children's well-being

Laws that support the well-being of children have come into force. They are intended to ensure that children and parents have easy access to the services they need and that they receive the right help at the right time, from the right people. By connecting services and working together for the well-being of children, it will be easier for children and parents to receive appropriate help. Children and their parents have access to a contact person in healthcare, school or social services. There, they can receive assistance in accessing appropriate services, without obstacles, at all service levels. In more complex cases, children and parents have access to a case manager at social services or wherever the child's needs lie at any given time. Staff who work with and for children must work together for their well-being. Staff in preschools, primary and secondary schools, social services, sports, leisure or health services have been given increased responsibility, which includes identifying children's situations and responding immediately when needed. This is an invitation to integrate services for parents and children if requested. Integration does not prevent parents from seeking services for their children themselves. The aim of the Welfare Act is to further improve services for children and families so that they receive the assistance they are entitled to as soon as it is needed. The purpose of the legislation is to ensure that children and families do not fall between systems and are not sent between service providers within municipalities and government agencies. Children have the right to express their opinions on the issues that affect their lives and those providing services should take children's opinions into account in accordance with their age and maturity. The starting point in everything we do should be the child and their best interests.
