Húnahúnabyggð Kindergarten was created through the merger of the municipalities of Blönduóssbær and Húnavatnshrepp.
The preschool has two locations, the main location at Hólabraut 17 and Stóri Fjallabær. Both locations are located in Blönduós.
The Hólabraur station has 4 departments: Þúfubær, Hólabær, Fellabær and Fjallabær.
Stóri Fjallabær is located on the premises of Húnaskóli. The oldest students of Húnabyggð's kindergarten stay at Stóri-Fjallabær, and students who live in rural areas are invited to come by school bus.
Before the merger of the municipalities, the Barnabær kindergarten operated in Blönduós and the Vallaból kindergarten in Húnavöllur. The kindergarten in Blönduós was founded in 1972. It began its operations in the Blönduós primary school and was then only open during the summer. In 1975 it became a year-round kindergarten and in 1977 the kindergarten moved to Árbraut 35. The kindergarten moved to its current premises in 1981. In January 2007, work began on an extension that was put into use in November of the same year. The older building of the school was also renovated. The kindergarten in Húnavöllur was opened in August 2008 in new, elegant premises located in Húnavöllur at Reykjabraut. The kindergarten was officially inaugurated in December of the same year and was given the name Vallaból.
Húnabyggð Preschool operates in accordance with the Act on Preschools No. 90/2008, Regulation on the Working Environment of Preschools No. 655/2009, and the National Curriculum Guide for Preschools from 2011.
